Who will bill my insurance?
TBO will bill your health insurance company.
When will I get a bill?
Once your insurance company has been billed and has responded to us, we determine how much you may owe and bill you. Depending on how quickly the insurance company processes the bill, it may take three to 12 weeks for you to receive a bill.
Can I ask for an itemized bill?
The amount that is due from the patient is rarely based on the total charges for the account, so the itemized bill may be of little use to you. Most insurance companies pay at a reduced rate from the total charges. The patient's amount is then based on this reduced rate.
What does “adjustment” mean on my bill?
Each insurance company negotiates a reduced price it is willing to pay a provider for services, normally less than the “retail” price of the service. The difference – or adjustment – is “written off”. The patient portion (co-insurance) is based on the contracted fee. For example, a hospital may charge $10,000 for a surgery that your insurance has agreed to only pay $2,500. Of that $2,500, the patient would have to pay $500 if the patient's responsibility is 20%. After the insurance pays $2,000 and patient pays $500, the remaining $7,500 would be the adjustment.
Can you bill my husband’s insurance instead of mine? He has a lower deductible.
Any health insurance for which you are the primary holder must be billed before any other health insurance. If you provide us information on a secondary carrier upon receipt of payment from your first carrier, we will bill them as well under a provision known as Coordination of Benefits.
Why didn't my insurance pay my whole bill?
Your insurance carrier will send you an explanation of benefits (EOB) to show how the claim was paid. You can compare your EOB to the bill sent by your provider. How the carrier paid the claim is based on their contract with your provider and their contract with you. If you feel the insurance company should have paid a higher amount, please contact them directly for resolution. If the insurance company feels the bill was paid correctly and you still disagree, you can file an appeal with them. Filing an appeal will not guarantee that the insurance company will pay more on your bill, but the claim will be reviewed for reconsideration.
What should I do if my insurance denies my claim?
Contact your insurance carrier for a detailed explanation on the claim.
How do I make a payment?
Please pay the balance due by detaching the bottom portion of your bill and include your check, money order, or credit card information (include the credit card expiration date) in the envelope provided. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. We are also happy to assist you with your credit card payment over the telephone or online.
Can I pay in installments?
A budget plan may be possible, within specific budget guidelines. Please call our Customer Service Department.
I have other insurance and Medicare. Which do you bill?
Medicare requires us to bill any insurance company that could have responsibility for your expenses before we bill Medicare. That other party may be another health insurer, auto insurer or workers compensation insurer, depending on circumstances. We need to have complete information about all insurance coverage you have.
Will you bill my Medicare supplement insurance?
If you have provided information about your additional health insurance, we will bill that insurance company after Medicare makes their payment.
